The artist has given the complete sum of his £25k Mercury Prize prize money to the MVT, which works to save the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.

The star was awarded the prize on mid-October as his third album the album was named the best record of the past year.

Fender has decided to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I did around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.

Recently, well-known musicians such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which supports independent venues.

Fender also joined in, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

The money assisted spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to challenges arising from flooding, fires and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.

Some locations received monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted performers and fans.

"The notion that money from shows in large arenas supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has commented.

He is far from the only musician to donate his award winnings to charitable organizations.

In the band earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their release their work, vocalist Jarvis Cocker declared that the band would give their cash to the organization the charity.

That year, rapper and singer she divided her award across multiple charities, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also gave a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

In recent years, they contributed their funds to the local youth club that nurtured their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

And the 1994 recipients the group gave their award to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the illness.

"Winning was quite enough," stated singer Heather Small. "The cash was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our success affected another person's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued several local spots in the South East, by placing them under community ownership.

The Joiners in that area and the second in that location were acquired under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by the arts council and music fans who acquire "stakes" in the venues.
